The fact is, as long as you exercise regularly, stick to a proper diet and get as much rest as you can then you can achieve optimum health. Rest and Relaxation
Rest and relaxation are important especially if your home or work life is very stressful. A simple way to rejuvenate the body and maintain better health is getting quality sleep at night. A good night’s sleep is important because this is the time when the body repairs itself. All these repairs are meant to keep the body resistant from sickness and age-related conditions. The body repairs the bones, tissues as well as store memories and triggers the release of certain hormones.
According to the National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute, preschool children should get at least 11-12 hours of sleep, 10 hours for grade school students and 9 to 10 for teenagers. For adults, you need at least 7 hours of sleep every night.
The quality of your sleep matters too! An adult should have a total of 2 hours in REM (rapid eye movement) sleep. Signs of low-quality sleep include grogginess, fatigue, morning sleepiness and lack of concentration.
Relaxation is equally important. Apart from learning healthy ways to cope with stress, you need to give yourself time off when things at home or at work become overwhelming. Signs that you need a break include anxiety, jitteriness, and tensed muscles. Long-term effects of stress include depression, anxiety, loss of focus and low libido.
Apart from keeping the body healthy, exercising also alleviates stress and anxiety. Regular exercise helps control weight, boost mental health and lengthen the lifespan! Working out also strengthens the muscles and the bones. Adults should get at least 2 and a half hours of moderate aerobic exercise every week and twice a week of strength training to achieve optimum health!
The best exercises include jogging, brisk walking, tennis, cycling, and swimming. You can take classes like Zumba, Circuit training or even Pilates to keep the body strong and flexible. You can also work out at home! Really, there is never a good enough excuse to avoid exercising.
Of course, you cannot leave out proper diet when talking about a healthy lifestyle! Unfortunately, busybodies have trouble sticking to a healthy diet because they are always pressed for time. They end up eating junk food, high-calorie TV dinners or fatty restaurant food.
A great (and affordable) way to promote proper eating is to prep your own meals. Use organic, high-quality ingredients and prep your food the night before. This way, you can simply grab your packed meals and go.
It helps if you cut back on simple carbs (processed flour) and high sugar foods such as fizzy drinks, sweet treats, donuts, etc. Replace fattening snacks with roasted nuts, whole grains as well as organic fruits and vegetables. Finally, avoid processed and junk foods at all cost.
